MODEL OF WORKING WITH A FOREIGN PUPIL COMING TO NEW COUNTRY (ADAPTATION OF FOREIGN PUPIL)

The main aim of the toolkit is to provide parents and educational institutions with information on how to support a foreign student and his/her family in the process of migration and adaptation in a new school. The theoretical part is a discussion of the specific of a foreign student arriving in a foreign country. This knowledge will help to understand the attitude of the foreign student in the new school reality, which in turn will make working with him/her easier. The practical part is practical advice for

  • the parents: how to prepare for the first visit to the child's new school and how to work with the child during the first months of adaptation in the new school,
  • the school principal: how to prepare the school and the teaching staff to work with a foreign student,
  • teachers and educators: how to prepare the class and their parents for the arrival of a new colleague.

The model includes proposals for specific tools in working with a foreign student: questionnaires, a welcome packet, an Individual Student Adaptation Plan, lesson scenarios. We can use the model as a whole or select areas of interest. The content can be adapted individually to the needs of a given student.
